Elaine Thompson-Herah targets a historic third Olympic double in Paris

Elaine Thompson-Herah Olympics double

The fastest woman alive, Elaine Thompson-Herah, is now looking ahead to the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she has set her sights on defending her sprint double. The Jamaican, who dominated the 100m and 200m in recent years, had injury problems last year and was not at the level that athletics fans are familiar with.

Elaine Thompson-Herah recently changed his coach and moved to Reynaldo Walcott.

“It was great. “My schedule has changed with a different system and a different coach, so I’m just trying to get used to it and I think I’m in a good place right now and I’m happy”, shared Elaine Thompson-Herah. “I feel good. It’s like if you have a car and you have to service it. It is my duty to make sure that my body is well tuned and always ready for the purpose. The key focus is to always be healthy”, added she.

Looking ahead to Paris, the specter of tension looms large, not from the expectations of others, but from the challenges of staying injury-free.

“The only time I feel pressure is if I have an injury”, admitted Elaine Thompson-Herah.

With a sprint double at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Elaine Thompson-Herah is on the verge of doing what no woman has done before: winning the 100m and 200m titles at three consecutive Olympics. During her preparation, she shared her philosophy on dealing with the pressure, especially with the high stakes of achieving something historic in Paris.

Elaine Thompson-Herah’s ambition extends beyond defending her titles as she eyes Florence Griffith-Joyner’s world record of 10.49 sec in the 100m, a mark that has stood since 1988.

With a personal best of 10.54 sec, Elaine Thompson-Herah is tantalizingly close to rewriting history, an opportunity that adds further excitement to her campaign in Paris.
