The eighth-seeded Yuan Yue (China) won the title of the WTA 250 ATX Open hard court tennis tournament in Austin (USA) with a prize fund of 267,082 USD.
In an all-Chinese final, Yuan Yue overcame sixth-seeded Xiyu Wang by 2-0 (6:4, 7:6) after two hours and 15 minutes of play.
The trophy is the first at WTA level for Yuan Yue, 25, who is playing in only the second final of her career, having lost to Jessica Pegula (USA) at the WTA 250 Hana Bank Korea Open in Seoul last October.
Yuan Yue suffered an early break in the first set and trailed 0:2, but took four straight games to take a 4:2 lead and won by 6:4. A dramatic second set ensued, with Yuan Yue leading by 5:2, missing three match points at 5:3, and Xiyu Wang leveling at 5:5. Yuan Yue still made it to the tiebreak on his seventh match point.
Yuan Yue has career-high WTA rankings of world No 49 in singles and No 144 in doubles, achieved in February and in March 2024, respectively.
