Yasemin Can won the women’s 10,000m title at the European Athletics Championships in Munich

Turkish athlete Yasemin Can won the women’s 10,000m title at the European Athletics Championships in Munich, Germany. The 19-year-old Kenyan-born long-distance runner triumphed with a time of 30:32.57 minutes to add a third career European Championship gold after the 5,000m and 10,000m at Amsterdam 2016.

Eilish McColgan (Great Britain) led in the first 7km but Yasemin Can broke away to win by more than 50m. Eilish McColgan won the second-place tie with Lonah Chemtai Salpeter (Israel) in 30:41.05. The Israeli athlete, who was also born in Kenya, finished third in a national record 30:46.37.

Yasemin Can is a Kenyan female long distance runner representing Turkey. She competes in 5,000m and 10,000m events. She is a member of Enkaspor in Istanbul. She also has gold medals from European Cross Country Championships, Mediterranean Games, and European U23 Championships.

In the women’s shot put, Jessica Schilder (Netherlands) became the champion, who pushed only one attempt over 20m – 20.24 m in the second round. This is a personal record and the best achievement in Europe for the year.
