The World Indoor high jump champion from Belgrade 2022, Yaroslava Mahuchikh, who last week attacked Stefka Kostadinova’s world record, ended the Diamond League season with a trophy. The Ukrainian won the final race in Zurich with 2.03m, which she overcame on the third attempt. She then attacked 2.06m but made three fouls.
Her compatriot Iryna Gerashchenko took second place with 1.94m, and Olympic medalist Nicola Olyslagers (Australia) came third with the same result.
“It’s great to win my first diamond trophy. I’m done with my season now”, said Yaroslava Mahuchikh. “I managed to stay pretty focused during the season and I really enjoyed it today. It was so nice to compete here and I felt a lot of support from the crowd. Now I finish my season with 203cm, it’s so good and I hope I can find the strength to compete in the new season. I was very close to 206cm but it just didn’t happen this time.”, added she.
Yaroslava Mahuchikh is a Ukrainian high jumper. She was the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics gold medalist, 2019 and 2022 World Championships silver medalist, 2020 Summer Olympics bronze medalist, and 2022 World Indoor Championships gold medalist.
