Yang Jiayu (China) won the Olympic 20km racewalking title in Paris.
London 2017 world champion Yang Jiayu finished in 1:25.54 hours. The 28-year-old Chinese athlete took the lead after the fifth kilometer and was not passed by the end.
World champion María Perez (Spain) finished second at 25 sec behind the winner. Thus she secured the silver, after missing the podium in fourth place at the previous Olympics in Tokyo.
World runner-up Jemima Montag (Australia), who set a continental record with 1:26.25 hours, won the bronze. Jemima Montag was sixth at the Games in the Japanese capital.
Defending Tokyo 2020 champion Antonella Palmisano (Italy) was running tenth but dropped out after the 13th kilometer.
The silver medalist of the Games in the Japanese capital, Sandra Arenas (Colombia), missed out on the honor this time. She clocked a national record of 1:27:03 hours, but finished fourth.
