The 10km world record holder Yalemzerf Yehualaw won the women’s London Marathon and recorded her first major marathon victory at the age of 23. The Ethiopian won with a time of 2:17:26, just 3 seconds slower than her personal best, which she set on her marathon debut in Hamburg in April.

Last year’s London winner Joyciline Jepkosgei (Kenya) came second in 2:18:07, while Alemu Megertu completed the Ethiopian triumph with third place in 2:18:07.

“I am so happy to win in London. I worked really hard for this race and to get the win is amazing”, said Yalemzerf Yehualaw.

She is the current world record holder in the 10 kilometers road race, sits second on the world all-time list for the half marathon, and seventh on the respective world all-time list for the marathon. Yalemzerf Yehualaw recorded the fastest-ever women’s marathon debut at the 2022 Hamburg Marathon. She won the gold at the 2020 Gdynia half-marathon team race and the 2019 Rabat half-marathon African Games.
