Yalemzerf Yehualaw (Ethiopia) won the Amsterdam Marathon in a new course record of 2:16:52 hours. The Ethiopian long-distance runner, who last won a marathon in 2022 at the London Marathon, was hoping to return to winning ways in Amsterdam. The former 10km world record holder knocked 28 seconds off the course record in Amsterdam, held until 2024 by her compatriot Almaz Ayana.
No one has ever run faster in Amsterdam than Yalemzerf Yehualaw, who also improved her personal best by half a minute. Her time is the fifth fastest of the year.
The second place among women in the Netherlands was taken by another representative of Ethiopia – Haven Hailu, who gave a result of 2:19:29 hours. Winfridah Moraa Moseti (Kenya) came third with 2:20:27.
Yalemzerf Yehualaw won the 2022 London Marathon and recorded the then-fastest ever women’s marathon debut at the time at the 2022 Hamburg Marathon.
