The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has announced its preliminary calendar for 2023 leading up to the US Open starting in August.
The WTA has added two new hardcourt tournaments ahead of WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open.
“As the WTA celebrates its 50th anniversary, the 2023 calendar showcases the incredible breadth and reach of women’s tennis”, said Steve Simon, WTA Chairman and CEO. “We are excited and proud to showcase our amazing events to our global audience of over 900 million fans, with tournaments in six continents and over 20 countries from January to early September. The 2023 calendar showcases the incredible breadth and scope of women’s tennis”, added he.
Changes to the WTA calendar this season include a new WTA 250 event in Austin, Texas, and a 250 event in Merida, Mexico, both taking place in February.
The season will begin with a new 15 million USD mixed tournament featuring teams from 18 nations playing matches in three Australian cities.
An updated calendar is expected to be released later this year with clarity on the tournaments returning to China.
