World steeplechase champion Norah Jeruto’s doping ban was lifted

After being suspended in April and missing the entire 2023 outdoor track season, the Athletics Federation announced yesterday that 2022 world steeplechase champion Norah Jeruto has been cleared after her suspension was lifted by the World Athletics Disciplinary Tribunal.

Norah Jeruto, 28, who was born in Kenya but began representing Kazakhstan in 2022, was suspended due to anomalies in her biological passport. According to the Athletics Integrity Unit, the athlete’s profile “represents clear evidence that the athlete has committed anti-doping rule violations”. Norah Jeruto, who has never failed a drug test, is appealing her case and claims her blood levels were the result of illness and ulcer problems.

Norah Jeruto is eligible to return to racing immediately.

Norah Jeruto is a Kazakhstani (formerly Kenyan) long-distance runner specializing in the steeplechase. She won the gold medal in the 3,000m steeplechase at the 2022 World Championships, becoming the first athlete representing Kazakhstan to win a title at the World Athletics Championships and setting a championship record in the process. Norah Jeruto took gold in the event at the 2016 African Championships in Athletics. She was the 2021 Diamond League 3,000m steeplechase champion.
