Winfred Mutile Yavi won the 3,000m steeplechase in Doha Diamond League

Kenyan-born Bahraini athlete Winfred Mutile Yavi won the 3,000m steeplechase at the opening Diamond League tournament in Doha with a season’s best of 9:04.38 min.

The Ethiopian athlete Sembo Almayew clocked a personal best of 9:05.83 min for second position, while Cali 2022 girls’ world champion Faith Cherotich (Kenya) came third in 9:06.43 min.

The 2019 Doha World Athletics champion Beatrice Chepkoech remained fourth with 9:06.90 min.

Winfred Mutile Yavi is a Kenyan-born Bahraini female athlete who specializes in the 3,000m steeplechase. She finished fourth at both the 2019 and 2022 World Athletics Championships. Winfred Mutile Yavi won the gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games. She took bronze in the 1500m, gold in the 5,000m and gold for the 3,000m steeplechase at the 2019 Asian Athletics Championships. Yavi was the bronze medallist in her specialist event at the 2018 World U20 Championships.
