Winfred Mutile Yavi won the 3,000m steeplechase gold at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest

Kenyan-born Bahraini athlete Winfred Mutile Yavi won the world title in the 3,000m steeplechase at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. The 23-year-old athlete achieved the best result in the world for the season of 8:54.29 min, winning the gold in the event.

The second place was taken by the world champion from Doha 2019 Beatrice Chepkoech (Kenya) with 8:58.98 min, and the bronze medal also went to Kenya. It was earned by Faith Cherotich with a personal best of 9:00.69 min.

Olympic champion from Tokyo 2020, Peruth Chemutai (Uganda), remained far from the honors and finished seventh with 9:10.26 min.

Winfred Mutile Yavi is a Kenyan-born Bahraini female athlete who specializes in the 3,000m steeplechase. She won the gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games and took bronze in the 1,500m, gold in the 5,000m and gold for the 3,000m steeplechase at the 2019 Asian Athletics Championships. Winfred Mutile Yavi was the bronze medalist in her specialist event at the 2018 World Under-20 Championships.
