Winfred Mutile Yavi earned the 3,000m steeplechase gold at the Zurich Diamond League

World champion Winfred Mutile Yavi (Bahrain) earned the 3,000m steeplechase gold at the Zurich Diamond League overtaking the Kenyan stars Beatrice Chepkoech and Faith Cherotich. The Kenyan-born Bahraini female athlete took the distance in 9:03.19 min just slightly ahead of the second in the race Beatrice Chepkoech finished, who finished in 9:03.70 min.

The third Faith Cherotich was far behind the leader and finished in 9:07.59 min.

The Top 5 was completed by Luiza Gega (Albania), who set a personal best and national record in the event, finishing in 9:09.64 min, followed by Marwa Bouzayani (Tunisia) in 9:11.98 min.

Winfred Mutile Yavi is a Kenyan-born Bahraini female athlete who specializes in the 3,000m steeplechase. She won the gold medal at the 2023 World Athletics Championships beating Beatrice Chepkoech of Kenya and finished fourth at both the 2019 and 2022 World Athletics Championships. Winfred Mutile Yavi won the gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games. She took bronze in the 1,500m, gold in the 5,000m and gold for the 3,000m steeplechase at the 2019 Asian Athletics Championships.
