Wilma Murto won the pole vault gold at London Diamond League

European indoor and outdoor pole vault champion Wilma Murto defeated Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medalist Katie Moon at the London Diamond League. The Finnish and American athletes finished tied at 4.80m, but Wilma Murto cleared the height on her second attempt and Katie Moon on her third. Then both made three faults at 4.86m.

European medalist Tina Sutej (Slovenia) took third position at the London Olympic Stadium with 4.71m.

Nina Kennedy (Australia) and Aikaterini Stefanidi (Greece) completed the top 5 at the competition.

Wilma Anna Helena Murto is a Finnish pole vaulter. She won the gold medal at the 2022 European Athletics Championships in Munich with a jump of 4.85m, equalizing the championships record and setting a new Finnish record. Wilma Murto also claimed victory at the 2023 European Indoor Championships, making her the first Finnish woman in history to win gold at these championships.

She was the 2016 World U20 Championships and 2017 European U20 Championships bronze medalist. Wilma Murto currently holds Finnish national records out and indoors and world U20 indoor record of 4.71m.
