Wilma Murto started the season with a new Finnish pole vault indoor record

The Finnish pole vaulter Wilma Murto started the indoor season with an impressive result. The athlete won the gold at the Kuortaneen seivaskisa with a new Finnish indoor record of 4.81m. This is also the best result in the world for the season.

Wilma Murto also attempted 4.86m, which would have been more than the national and outdoor record (4.85m), but failed to clear that height.

“I’m not very surprised, but I’m happy”, said Wilma Murto after the achievement.

The second in the meeting remained Saga Andersson and the bronze went to Emma Rovasalo, both with 3.85m.

Wilma Murto won the gold medal at the 2022 European Athletics Championships in Munich with a jump of 4.85 m, equalling the championships record and setting a new Finnish record. She also claimed victory at the 2023 European Indoor Championships, making her the first Finnish woman in history to win gold at these championships. She was the 2016 World Under-20 Championships and 2017 European U20 Championships bronze medalist. Wilma Murto currently holds Finnish national records out and indoors and world U20 indoor record of 4.71m.
