Wendy Holdener undergoes ankle surgery and misses the remainder of the alpine skiing season

Swiss Alpine skier Wendy Holdener could miss the remainder of the women’s alpine skiing season after undergoing ankle surgery today.

Wendy Holdener, one of Mikaela Shiffrin’s biggest slalom rivals, fell during training in Italy and fractured her left ankle. The Swiss Ski Federation specifies that the recovery period is about two months. Thus, Wendy Holdener will miss six World Cup starts and will only be able to return for the last two in March.

Mikaela Shiffrin won the final slalom in Killington, Vermont, and Wendy Holdener finished third. It was the 35th podium in the discipline for the 30-year-old Swiss skier in the World Cup. She took silver in PyeongChang 2018 Olympics and bronze in Beijing 2022 Olympics.

Wendy Holdener has two combined world titles and a 2018 Olympic team gold.
