Vivian Cheruiyot will try to return to victories at the Paris Marathon

Vivian Cheruiyot marathon

Multiple world champion Vivian Cheruiyot will head into the Paris Marathon on Sunday (April 7) with one main goal – victory. The Kenyan long-distance runner has emerged as the favorite and will be on the hunt for a full marathon victory in many years. Her last victory was during the 2018 London Marathon, where she recorded an impressive time of 2:18:31 hours to cross the finish line first.

The 2016 Olympic 5,000m champion has a record of impressive performances and will be looking to return to winning ways in Paris. Despite being 39 years old and with her last completed marathon since 2019, Vivian Cheruiyot remains a contender for the top spot.

This year the women start on the same line as the men and are no longer alone as in previous years, with an early start, with the leading female riders taking advantage of favorable conditions to set good times.

Vivian Cheruiyot is a Kenyan long-distance runner. She represented Kenya at the Summer Olympics in 2000, 2008, 2012, and 2016, winning the silver medal in the 5,000m and bronze in the 10,000m at the 2012 London Olympics as well as gold in the 5,000m and silver in the 10,000m at the Rio 2016 Olympics, setting a new Olympic record in the former. Vivian Cheruiyot won the silver medal in the 5,000m at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics and became the world champion in the event at the 2009 edition, repeating this achievement in 2011, when she also won the 10,000m.

Vivian Cheruiyot added gold for the latter event at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics. After taking a silver in the 3,000m at the 2010 World Indoor Championships, she won a number of outdoor 5,000m titles that year, becoming Commonwealth Games, African and Continental Cup champion, as well as winning the Diamond League title.
