Viktoriya Tomova will miss the next tennis tournament she was planning to participate in. The reason is an injury she got at the WTA 1000 Miami Open, where she reached the second round and was eliminated by the 23rd-seeded Caroline Garcia (France). Bulgarian tennis player has a muscle spasm in the lower back. The injury affected her game against her opponent and did not allow her to finish the match.
The second-round match at the WTA 1000 Miami Open began on Friday, but was interrupted by rain. After the restart, Caroline Garcia took the first set. Viktoriya Tomova requested a medical timeout in the middle of the second half and tried to finish the match, but eventually gave up with a score of 1:6, 2:5.
Viktoriya Tomova had planned to play in the WTA 125 tournament in Mexico next week, but an injury ruled her out. She hopes to be ready for the Charleston race, which begins on April 1.
“I felt it last match, then it wasn’t a spasm, but like an overload and then it got better. I’ll miss the next tournament – in Mexico. I’ll have to rest some days to see how I recover. I hope I’ll be fine and I will be ready for Charleston”, said Viktoriya Tomova.
