Bulgarian tennis player Viktoriya Tomova qualified for the second round of the WTA 1000 China Open tennis tournament in Beijing with prize money of nearly 9 million EUR.
Viktoriya Tomova, who is 51st in the world ranking, eliminated Lesia Tsurenko (Ukraine) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:3) in 86 minutes of play.
The Bulgarian tennis player took a 3:0 lead on her way to victory in the first set, in which she broke three times and lost serve twice. In the second set after 3:3, she took three games in a row and closed the match with her second match point.
Viktoriya Tomova’s next opponent will be the 15th-seeded Paula Badosa (Spain). The two have played only once against each other – in the semifinals of a tournament in Belgrade in 2021, when the Spaniard won by 2-0 (6:1, 6:2).
The top-seeded at the WTA 1000 China Open in Beijing is Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) and the second-seeded is Jessica Pegula (USA).
