Viktoriya Tomova qualified for the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 Hobart International

Viktoriya Tomova (Bulgaria) continue with her great performance at the WTA 250 Hobart International. The Bulgarian tennis player eliminated the 9th-seeded Tatjana Maria (Germany) after 2-0 (6:0, 6:1) in only 1 hour of play and qualified for the quarter-finals of the tournament with a prize money of 267,082 USD.

Viktoriya Tomova started strongly the first set, breaking her opponent already in the first game, but after that needed to save two breakpoints, before making another break for 3:0. By the end of the set, the Bulgarian tennis player did not get a chance for her opponent and close the set at 6:0. Viktoriya Tomova used the impetus also in the beginning of the second set and broke her opponent, leading by 2:0. Although Tatjana Maria won the the next game at her serve, the Bulgarian player made two more breaks to close the set at 6:1 and win the match.

In the quarter-finals, Viktoriya Tomova will face the 2nd-seeded Emma Navarro (USA), who eliminated Magdalena Frech (Poland) after 2-0 (6:3, 6:3).

Another surprise from the day is the elimination of the 5th-seeded Marie Bouzkova (Czech Republic), who lost to Yulia Putintseva (Kazakhstan) by 1-2 (4:6, 6:1, 3:6). In the next round the Kazakhstani tennis player will face Yue Yuan (China), who won the all-Chinese clash versus 4th-seeded Xinyu Wang.

Sofia Kenin (USA) is another top-seeded player to be eliminated from the tournament after losing to Daria Saville (Australia) by 0-2 (6:7, 1:6). Meanwhile, Arantxa Rus defeated the 8th-seeded Varvara Gracheva (France) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:3) and also advanced to the quarter-finals.

The top-seeded Elise Mertens (Belgium) did not have any problems versus Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (Slovakia) and won by 2-0 (6:2, 6:3), while the 3rd-seeded Lin Zhu (China) had a quite harder match versus Caroline Dolehide (USA) but eventually won by 2-1 (5:7, 6:3, 6:4).
