Russian tennis player Veronika Kudermetova won the title at the hard court tournament WTA 500 Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis in Tokyo with a prize pool of 780,637 USD. For the Russian tennis player, the trophy is the first of the season and the second of her career.
In the final, the 8th-seeded Veronika Kudermetova defeated Jessica Pegula (USA) by 2-0 (7:5, 6:1). The match lasted an hour and 25 minutes.
The Russian led 3:0 in the first set, allowed an equalizer to 3:3, but still managed to win by 7:5. In the second set, she was more convincing and after the initial lead of 3:0, she reached a successful 6:1 against the world’s No 4 Jessica Pegula.
The victory was the second for Veronika Kudermetova over Jessica Pegula, after the one in the quarterfinals at the WTA 1000 Madrid Open. The win is the 26-year-old Russian’s fifth in her last six match with Top-10 ranked opponents.
