The sixth-seeded Veronika Kudermetova qualified for the second round of the WTA 250 Adelaide International 2. The Russian tennis player defeated Victoria Azarenka (Belarus) by 2-1 (2:6, 7:6, 6:4) in match that lasted almost 3 hours.
In the very thought first set, Victoria Azarenka achieved victory with 3 breaks despite the 12 saves breakpoints by Veronika Kudermetova. However, the Russian returned to the match in the second set and in a disputed tiebreak equalized the sets. A late break in the third set gave the victory to Veronika Kudermetova, who qualified for the next round of the tournament.
In the “Round of 16”, Veronika Kudermetova will face another Russian tennis player – Ekaterina Alexandrova.
Another Russian player, Anna Kalinskaya, also advanced to the next round after defeating Jelena Ostapenko (latvia) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:4).
Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic) also qualified for the next round after defeating Alison Riske-Amritraj (USA) by 2-0 (6:2, 7:6) and in the next round will play versus Daria Kasatkina.
Chineze tennis player Qinwen Zheng defeated Shelby Rogers (USA) by 2-1 (4:6, 6:4, 6:0). Katerina Siniakova (Czech Republic) also advanced to the next round after retiring of Anastasia Potapova (Russia).
Estonian player Kaia Kanepi eliminated Storm Hunter (Australia) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:2), while Liudmila Samsonova (Russia) defeated Amanda Anisimova (USA) by 2-0 (7:5, 6:3).
