The 9th-seeded Veronika Kudermetova (Russia) is out of the WTA 500 Zhengzhou Open after losing to her compatriot Vera Zvonareva by 0-2 (2:6, 6:7) in almost two hours of play.
The tennis veteran and former world’s number two Vera Zvonareva showed her experience and overcame her opponent despite the good form she had entered it. She made two breaks in the first set and did not give a single breakpoint to Veronika Kudermetova to win it by 6:2. The second set was quite more equal with both players exchanging three breaks each and finally turned it into a tiebreak, which Vera Zvonareva won by 7-5.
Thus, Vera Zvonareva advanced to the second round of the WTA 500 Zhengzhou Open, where will face Anhelina Kalinina (Ukraine).
In another match of the day, Petra Martic (Croatia) defeated Magda Linette (Poland) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:1) and will face the 7th-seeded Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic) for the place in the quarter-finals.
