Veronika Kudermetova had a hard start at Wimbledon versus Kaia Kanepi but reached the second round

The 12th-seeded Russian tennis player Veronika Kudermetova had a hard start at Wimbledon, but succeeded to eliminate Kaia Kanepi (Estonia) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:4) in 1:44 hours.

Veronika Kudermetova made 14 aces and 45 winners, against 3 double faults and 17 unforced errors for the opponent.

The first set was quite contested with both players winning their serve games with only one break point, which the Russian player missed already in the first game. Thus, the first set entered in tiebreak, which Veronika Kudermetova won by 7-4.

The second set started in the same way with both winning their serving games, but the Russian player missed 4 breakpoints. In the 9th game, Kaia Kanepi received 3 breakpoints, but this time Veronika Kudermetova saved them and in the next game she succeeded to break the serve of her opponent and thus closed the match.

In the next round, she will face Marketa Vondrousova (Czech Republic), who eliminated Peyton Stearns (USA) by 2-0 (6:2, 7:5).

The 4th-seeded American player Jessica Pegula defeated her compatriot Lauren Davis by 2-1 (6:2, 6:7, 6:3). In the next round, she will face Cristina Bucsa (Spain), who eliminated Kamilla Rakhimova (Russia) by 2-1 (6:3, 4:6, 7:6).

Diane Parry (France) also advanced to the second round of Wimbledon after defeating Harriet Dart (UK) by 2-1 (6:7, 6:0, 6:4) and will face Petra Martic (Croatia), who advanced ahead after retiring of Linda Fruhvirtova (Czech Republic) in the third set at 1-1 (7:5, 6:7, 4:1).

Victoria Azarenka (Belarus) defeated Yue Yuan (China) by 2-1 (6:4, 5:7, 6:4) and will face Nadia Podoroska (Argentina), who eliminated Tereza Martincova (Czech Republic) after 2-1 (3:6, 7:6, 6:4).

Alycia Parks (USA) also advanced to the second round after defeating Anna-Lena Friedsam (Germany by 2-0 (6:4, 6:3), while Ana Bogdan (Romania) served one of the first-day surprised eliminating the 15th-seeded Liudmila Samsonova (Russia) by 2-0 (7:6, 7:6).

Barbora Strycova (Czech Republic) defeated Maryna Zanevska (Belgium) by 2-0 (6:1, 7:5).
