Venus Williams: I just want to get back and play tennis

Venus Williams has taken to social media to hope to return to the court soon after the injury she suffered at the first tournament of the year in Auckland, New Zealand.

“Last year I only played four tournaments in the summer. I worked on my game for four months and I didn’t stop training with the idea of playing one more time in the Australian Open. Before going to Melbourne, my path passed through New Zealand, where I have a lot of good memories from the past and a title in 2015”, said the American tennis player, who should turn 43 this summer.

Venus Williams picked up an injury in the second round of the tournament in Auckland and tests showed she had a hamstring injury and could not play in Melbourne.

“I need to rest for a while before I start training. Before I start running, I need to be able to walk normally. I know things don’t always go well, but I just want to get back and play tennis. I don’t know when, hopefully to be as early as possible”, said the American tennis player in a video address to her fans.

Venus Williams is an American professional tennis player. A former world No 1 in both singles and doubles, she has won seven Grand Slam singles titles, five at Wimbledon and two at the US Open. She is widely regarded as one of the all-time greats of the sport.
