Deyna Castellanos is a Venezuelan footballer, who plays as a forward for the Women’s Super League club Manchester City and the Venezuela women’s national team.
Deyna Castellanos was born on April 18, 1999, in Maracay, Venezuela. She was fond of football in her childhood and played in the local youth clubs. Deyna Castellanos was called for Venezuela’s U17 women’s national football team in 2014 and finished fourth at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup and runners-up in the Women’s Youth Olympic football in the same year, winning the Golden Boot in both events. Deyna Castellanos was also a top scorer of the 2016 South American U17 Women’s Football Championship. She is currently the all-time leading goalscorer of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
Following her great success on the field, Deyna Castellanos was awarded a scholarship to study journalism and play football at Florida State University. She spent three years in the United States to play for Florida State Seminoles, before signing her first professional contract with Atletico Madrid Femenino in the very beginning of 2020.
Deyna Castellanos played with Atletico Madrid Femenino in the Spain Primera Division Women, currently Spain Liga F, for three seasons, appearing in 57 matches and scoring 23 goals, as well as making 11 assists. Her team became the runner-up at the Spain Primera Division Women in 2020/2021 and finished 4th in the next two seasons with Deyna Castellanos in the squad. In the domestic cups, Atletico Madrid Femenino won the Super Cup Women in the 2020/2021 season and finished second in the 2021/2022 season. Deyna Castellanos played with the club in the UEFA Women’s Champions League in the 2020/2021 season, appearing in 4 matches and scoring one goal, but her team was eliminated in the Round of 16.
Meanwhile, Deyna Castellanos played for the senior Venezuela women’s national team at the Central American & Caribbean Games Women 2018, winning the bronze, and the Copa America Women 2018, where dropped out in the group stage.
In July 2022, Deyna Castellanos signed with the Women’s Super League club Manchester City WFC, making a transfer as a free agent. In her maiden season with the club, she played in 19 matches, scored 1 goal, and made 1 assist. She played also at the Women’s League Cup, reaching the semi-finals, and the Women’s FA Cup, reaching the quarter-finals, as she appeared in a total of 7 games and scored 2 goals. Deyna Castellanos was also part of the Manchester City team for the UEFA Women’s Champions League, appearing in 2 matches and scoring 1 goal. During the next season, she was one of the key players of Manchester City WFC.
Deyna Castellanos played for the senior Venezuela women’s national team at the Copa America Women 2022, appearing in 5 matches and scoring 3 goals, with her team finishing 6th in the competition. She also played at the Central American & Caribbean Games Women 2023, appearing in 4 matches and scoring 5 goals, with her team finishing second, losing to Mexico in the added time.
