Valur defeated Keflavik and needs only one victory to win Iceland Premier League Women’s final play-off

Valur defeated Keflavik by 77-70 after overtime and took a lead of 2-0 in the Iceland Premier League Women’s final play-off. Thus, the team needs only one victory to triumph with the title.

Valur had a lead of 11 points after the first two quarters and kept it during the third quarter, but Keflavik made a fantastic final part to equalize the score to 62-62 (16-12, 22-15, 15-15, 9-20). However, in the extra time, the basketball players of Valur were better and succeeded in taking the win and the, touch the title.

Dagbjort Karlsdottir scored 19 points for Valur and was the most effective for the team. Kiana Johnson finished the match with double-double – 15 pts, 10 rebs, and 9 asts, while Simone Gabriel Costa added 11 points for the success.

The most valuable player for Keflavik and in the match was Birna Benonysdottir with 27 pts, 7 rebs, and 2 asts. Daniela Wallen and Karina Konstantinova finished with a double-double, 17-17-4 and 12-13-5, but this was not enough for their team to win the match.

Valur is the champion of Iceland in 2018/2019 and 2020/2021, while Keflavik last won the title in 2016/2017.

The third-leg match from the Iceland Premier League Women’s final play-off is on April 25.
