Valarie Allman set a new world season-best in the discus throw

The Olympic discus throws champion Valarie Allman continues her strong start to the season after winning the San Diego event with 70.25m to break her world record for the year. This is also the third strongest achievement in the American track and field athlete in her career.

After opening the summer season with a 67.90m victory in Texas a week ago, the world medalist added more than two meters to that mark and achieved the sixth result over 70m of her career. She has a personal best of 71.46m achieved in San Diego a year ago.

European medalist Jorinde van Klinken finished second with 67.05m and 2019 world champion Yaime Perez came third with 66.97m.

Valarie Allman is an American track and field athlete specializing in the discus throw. She won the gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. At the 2022 World Athletics Championships, she won a bronze medal, which made her the first American woman to win a world championship medal in the discus throw.
