USA and Netherlands made a 1-1 draw in the Group E derby match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup

The two favorites in Group E of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the USA and the Netherlands made a 1-1 draw. The Tulips opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a goal of Jill Roord, but the Americans dominated the second half and equalized through Lindsay Horan in the 62nd minute.

The clash in Wellington was a repeat of the 2019 final won by the USA. The two teams lived up to expectations and offered one of the best matches since the beginning of the championship. The Netherlands started very ambitiously and Jill Roord materialized a mistake by Crystal Dunn to put her team ahead.

The USA’s pressure was contained until the break, but in the second half the Americans played even harder. In the 62nd minute, Lindsay Horan, who also scored in the first match of her team at the FIFA Women’s World Cup versus Vietnam, which was won by the Yanees by 3-0, scored after Rose Lavelle’s cross to head home.

After today’s draw, the rivals lead the group standings with 4 points each. In the final round, the USA faces Portugal on Tuesday, while the Netherlands will look for a convincing win against Vietnam to fight for the top spot.
