USA and Japan took a lead in Group B of the Women’s basketball tournament at the Tokyo Olympics. Both teams have their opening matches.

Women’s basketball team of USA won versus Nigeria by 81-72 (17-20; 27-12; 26-18; 11-20). Aja Wilson was the most valuable player for the team with 19 pts, 13 rebs, and 1 ast, while Brittney Griner added 13 pts, 10 rebs, and 3 asts. For the team of Nigeria, the best player on the field was Ezinne Josephine Kalu with 16 pts, 6 rebs, and 2 asts.

Japan also started the tournament with a win versus France by 74-70 (13-17; 21-19; 18-13; 22-21). The win for Japan came actually quite hard in the very last part of the match. The most valuable player for Japan was Saki Hayashi with 12 pts and 1 ast. For France, the top players in the match were Sandrine Gruda with 18 pts and 9 rebs and Endene Miyem with 1 pts, 6 rebs and 3 asts.

The next matches in the group are France vs Nigeria and USA vs Japan and will be played on Friday, July 30.
