The US women’s tennis team took an important step toward the semi-finals of the Billie Jean Cup after a 2-1 victory over Poland.
Danielle Collins overcame an early break deficit in the third set to give the Americans a lead after winning her match versus Magdalena Frech by 2-1 (6:4, 3:6, 7:6), but Magda Linette overcame the resistance of Madison Keys by 2-1 (6:4, 4:6, 6:2) to equalize the score. In the decisive doubles match, Cori Coco Gauff and Caty McNally had no problems against Magda Linette and Alicja Rosolska, and after 2-0 (6:1, 6:2) they brought success to the USA. The Czech Republic is also in the group.
Slovakia prevailed 2-1 over Belgium in Group “B” of the Billie Jean Cup and topped the ranking with a win and a loss.
Viktoria Kuzmova gave her team an advance after 2-0 (6:2, 7:6) victory over Ysaline Bonaventure, and Anna Karolina Schmiedlova guaranteed success with 2-1 (5:7, 6:2, 6:3) win over Maryna Zanevska. In the doubles match, Kirsten Flipkens and Elise Mertens defeated Viktoria Kuzmova and Tereza Mihalikova by 2-0 (6:0, 6:3) and took the first victory for Belgium.
In another match of the group, Australia beat Slovakia by 2-1.
