Ukrainian biathlete Olena Bilosiuk tested positive for COVID-19 three days before the start of the Beijing 2022 Olympics.
The head coach of the women’s biathlon team of Ukraine Uros Velepec announced that the 35-year-old Olympic champion in the Sochi 2014 has symptoms of the disease and is under quarantine.
“I was afraid of this from the first day. The domino effect started. I hope we will deal with this problem”, said Uros Velepec in an interview.
Olena Bilosiuk will miss the first start in the mixed relay on February 5, but then she can take part in one of the starts if she gives two consecutive negative tests.
This is the second case of coronavirus in the Olympic delegation of Ukraine, but the first among athletes. Earlier, the coach of the men’s biathlon team fell ill.
The Olympic biathlon competition will take place from February 5th to 19th.
Olena Bilosiuk is a Ukrainian biathlete. She is Olympic and World champion, multiple medalist of different high-level competitions. Olena Bilosiuk is considered to be one of the most successful winter sports athletes in Ukraine.
