Two-time Olympic shot putter champion Valerie Adams retired

Two-time Olympic shot putter champion Valerie Adams of New Zealand ends her athletic career. The 37-year-old Valerie Adams has won four Olympic medals and won a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Games.

“After winning the Olympic bronze medal in Tokyo, I had decided to stay a few more years. It took me a while to really think about it and see if it was something I would like to do again. My heart, mind and body gave me simple answer – it’s time to end”, write Valerie Adams.

The athlete is an Olympic champion from Beijing 2008 and London 2012, has a silver medal from Rio 2016 and a bronze medal from Tokyo 2020. She is a four-time world number 1 and has four titles from world indoor championships.

Valerie Adams has a personal best throw of 21.24 m outdoors and 20.54 m indoors. These marks are Oceanian, Commonwealth, and New Zealand national records. She also holds the Oceanian junior record (18.93 m) and the Oceanian youth record (17.54 m), as well as the World Championships record, World Indoor Championships record, and Commonwealth Games record.
