Turkey won its first medal at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Istanbul. And not just any kind, but gold. It was won by Tugba Danısmaz in the triple jump. She achieved a result of 14.31m in her first attempt and with a new Turkish national record led the standings and remained in the lead until the very end. She recorded only one more successful attempt in the event of 14.11m.
The Tallinn 2021 Under-23 European Girls Champion brought the crowd to their feet and was cheered on throughout the competition.
The silver in the triple jump went to Dariya Derkach (Italy), who achieved 14.20m in her best attempt today.
The European champion from Torun 2021 Patricia Mamona won the bronze today after her best result today was 14.16m. So she already has a full set of medals from the European indoor championships, after being a silver medalist in 2017 in Belgrade.
Tugba Danısmaz is a Turkish track and field athlete competing in the long jump and triple jump. She won the gold medal for the triple jump at the 2023 European Indoor Championships. She claimed silver and gold at the 2019 and 2021 European Under-23 Championships respectively. Tugba Danısmaz is the Turkish national record holder for the triple jump both outdoors and indoors.
