The top-seeded Ons Jabeur (Tunisia) is out of the WTA 1000 Guadalajara Open Akron, losing to Martina Trevisan (Italy) by 1-2 (7:6, 5:7, 3:6) in the third round of the hard court tournament with a prize pool of 2,788,468 USD.
The Tunisian tennis player lost seven set points within the set and another one in the tiebreak to win the first set but finally succeeded to win it. In the second set, both players exchanged two breaks with Ons Jabeur taking a lead twice, but Martina Trevisan returned the breaks immediately. However, in the 12th game the Italian player received another break point and did not missed her chance, closing the set at 7:5 in her favor and equalizing the score. The both players started equally the third set, winning their serve games, but in the 6th game Martina Trevisan took a lead of 4:2 after breaking the serve of her opponent. Ons Jabeur returned the break immediately, but the Italian player succeeded to break again and kept her lead to 5:3, thus, receiving a chance to serve for the match, which won in the first match point.
In the quarter-finals, Martina Trevisan will face Caroline Dolehide (USA).
The former world’s number one Victoria Azarenka (Belarus) also advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating the 7th-seeded Veronika Kudermetova (Russia) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:1), while Leylah Fernandez (Canada) defeated Emma Navarro (USA) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:3).
The 2nd-seeded Maria Sakkari (Greece) did not made a mistake and defeated Camila Giorgi (Italy) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:2) and advanced in the tournament.
