Tobi Amusan won the world gold on 100m hurdles and set a new world record

Nigerian athlete Tobi Amusan served up one of the super sensations at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. The 25-year-old Nigerian ran under the 100m hurdles world record for the second time in under 2 hours and grabbed the gold medal in 12.06 sec (2.5 m/s). However, Amusan’s achievement of the final will not enter the official records as it was achieved with a headwind above the allowance. Thus, the Nigerian is No 1 in the all-time ranking of the discipline with 12.12 sec from the semi-finals.

Jamaican Britany Anderson won the silver medal with 12.23 sec, and Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (Puerto Rico) achieved the same result for the bronze award.

The second from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games and from the World in Doha in 2019, Kendra Harrison (USA) was disqualified.

Oluwatobiloba Ayomide “Tobi” Amusan is a Nigerian track and field athlete who specialises in the 100m hurdles and also competes as a sprinter. She was the 2018 Commonwealth and 2018 African champion and is also a two-time African Games champion in the event. Tobi Amusan won the Diamond League Trophy in Zurich in 2021 in the 100m hurdles.
