World champion and world record holder in 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, will have serious competition at the Silesia Diamond League on Sunday. The Nigerian athlete won her country’s third national title in a row by 12.70 sec ahead of another circuit tournament.
At the Diamond League in Stockholm, Tobi Amusan won the gold with 12.59 sec. Earlier in the season, she suffered a loss at the Diamond League in Lausanne to Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn.
In Poland, Tobi Amusan will face this year’s US champion Nia Ali.
The 33-year-old American won the national championship with a personal best for the season of 12.37 sec, beating former world record holder Kendra Harrison.
Oluwatobiloba Ayomide “Tobi” Amusan is a Nigerian track and field athlete who specializes in the 100m hurdles and also competes as a sprinter. She is the current World, Commonwealth and African champion in the 100m hurdles, as well as the meet record holder in those three competitions. Tobi Amusan became the first ever Nigerian world champion and world record holder in an athletics event when she won the 2022 World Championships 100m hurdles gold medal, setting the current world record of 12.12 sec in the semi-final, followed up by a 12.06 sec in the final. She won back-to-back Commonwealth and African titles in 2018 and 2022 in the 100m hurdles and is also a two-time African Games champion in the event. She is also the current Diamond league champion in the 100m hurdles having won the final in 12.29 sec winning back to back titles in 2022 and 2023.
