Tobi Amusan believes she will be cleared to compete at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest

The 100m hurdles world record holder Tobi Amusan (Nigeria) has been charged with anti-doping violations but has denied using banned substances and believes she will be cleared to compete at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest from August 19 to 27.

The Nigerian athlete has missed three out-of-competition tests within 12 months because she was not at her declared location when the examiners arrived. Because of this, according to the regulations, she faces a penalty of between one and two years.

“I am a clean athlete, I am tested for doping quite often, maybe even more often than usual. A few days after my third “missed test” I gave a sample. I believe that a decision will be made in my favor and I will be able to compete at the World Athletics Championships in August”, said Tobi Amusan.

The case of the 26-year-old African athlete will be heard by a three-member tribunal. The Nigerian won the Silesia Diamond League 100m hurdles event on Sunday, recording a second victory of the season in athletics’ most prestigious circuit.

She set the world record of 12.12 sec at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon (USA) last summer, becoming the country’s first representative with a gold medal in the discipline at such a forum.
