Three-time Olympic swimming champion Ranomi Kromowidjojo retired

Three-time Olympic swimming champion Ranomi Kromowidjojo has announced she is ending her career. The Dutchwoman has competed in four Olympics and won several world titles.

“After 16 years in the elite sport, my professional career in swimming is coming to an end”, wrote the 31-year-old Ranomi Kromowidjojo on her Instagram account. “Swimming will always be my passion, but not on a professional level anymore. I have achieved so much more than I could have ever dreamed! Thanks to all those years of top sport, I know that you are capable of much more than you think, among other things by having the right thoughts. And I am also convinced that these experiences will now also help me with my next challenge to inspire others”, added she.

Ranomi Kromowidjojo won her first Olympic gold medal with a record at the Beijing 2008 Olympics as part of the Dutch 100m freestyle relay with Inge Dekker, Femke Heemskerk, and Marleen Veldhuis

Four years later, in London, the swimmer won the individual titles in the 50m and 100m freestyle.

Ranomi Kromowidjojo also has a 50m freestyle world title and, together with the Dutch national team in the 100m freestyle relay at the 50-meter pool, as well as 14 other world championship titles in the 25-meter pool.
