Three-time Olympic champion Gabby Douglas fell twice in mixed parallel bars

Three-time Olympic gymnastics champion Gabby Douglas (USA) fell twice during her mixed parallel bars routine at the “Classic” tournament and withdrew from the competition.

The American, who took all-around and team gold at London 2012 Olympics, struggled early in the competition and later left the venue. The withdrawal means Gabby Douglas, 28, will not qualify for the all-around at the US Championships. She has already secured three pieces of equipment for the national championships, which begin on May 30.

Four-time Olympic champion Simone Biles, who took team gold with Gabby Douglas at the Rio 2016 Olympics, won the all-around title with a score of 59.500 points, almost two points ahead of second-place Shilese Jones.

Gabby Douglas took time off to deal with mental health issues and resumed training last year in hopes of making the US team for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Gabby Douglas is the 2012 Olympic all-around champion and the 2015 World all-around silver medalist. She was a member of the gold-winning teams at both the 2012 and the 2016 Summer Olympics, dubbed the “Fierce Five” and the “Final Five” by the media, respectively. She was also a member of the gold-winning American teams at the 2011 and the 2015 World Championships. She is the first African American to become the Olympic individual all-around champion, and the first US gymnast to win gold in both the individual all-around and team competitions at the same Olympics. She was also the 2016 AT&T American Cup all-around champion.
