This World Indoor champion from Glasgow 2024 in the triple jump Thea LaFond brought a historic Olympic title to Dominican Republic. At the Paris Games, the 30-year-old athlete won the gold medal in the rain with a new national record of 15.02m (-0.4 m/s). She achieved this result in her second attempt.
Shanieka Ricketts (Jamaica) won silver with 14.87m (-0.7m/s) and Jasmine Moore (USA) came in third with 14.67m (0.7m/s).
The Olympic champion and world record holder Yulimar Rojas was absent from the tournament in Paris. The Venezuelan, who won gold in Tokyo with a remarkable jump of 15.67m and a year later set the record in Belgrade with 15.74m, is recovering from an injury in her left leg. She again traveled to Paris after the local sports ministry decided to make her a flag bearer “as a symbol of her strength and devotion to the motherland”.
