The world record holder Brigid Kosgei has withdrawn from the London Marathon

Marathon world record holder Brigid Kosgei has withdrawn from the London Marathon on Sunday due to injury. The Kenyan long-distance runner says an injury to her right hamstring has affected her ability to train for the past month.

The two-time winner in London was fourth in last year’s race after taking silver at the Tokyo 2022 Olympics.

“I would like to prepare to be in the best form. We decided it was best for me to withdraw and get further treatment”, said Brigid Kosgei.

Brigid Kosgei, who won the London Marathon in 2019 and 2020, set a women’s world record of 02:14:04 hours at the 2019 Chicago Marathon. She won this year’s Tokyo Marathon in 2:16:02 – the fourth-fastest all the time.

Brigid Kosgei is a Kenyan long-distance runner who specializes in marathons. She won the 2018 and 2019 Chicago Marathons, the 2019 and 2020 London Marathons and the 2021 Tokyo Marathon, as well as the silver medals from 2017 Chicago and 2018 London. Brigid Kosgei is the current marathon world record holder for women running in a mixed-sex race. She won the silver medal in the marathon event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
