The US women’s national volleyball team coach Karch Kiraly announced her 12-player squad for the Paris 2024 Olympics. The squad includes eight volleyball players who won gold at the Tokyo 2020 Games and four will make their Olympic debut in France capital.
The star Jordan Larson will compete in her fourth Olympic Games. She has a silver from London 2012, a bronze medal from Rio 2016 to go with the gold at Tokyo 2020. For hitter Kelsey Robinson, this will be her third Olympics after Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.
Setter Jordyn Poulter, libero Justine Wong-Orantes, diagonals Andrea Drews and Jordan Thompson, and middle blockers Chiaka Ogbogu and Haleigh Washington will be playing in their second Olympics after winning gold at Tokyo 2020. Setters Lauren Carlini, setters Kathryn Plummer and Avery Skinner and blocker Dana Rettke will make their Olympic debut in Paris.
“We have so much to be thankful for in our national team – so many quality human beings who are dedicated, thoughtful and hardworking women. So many who have as much human qualities as volleyball at the highest level. Our main a group of 25 athletes have done a great job in recent months preparing as best they can with an eye to the Paris 2024 Olympics. The decision and selection of a squad like this is both bittersweet and bittersweet that we can’t to travel with all these 25 special women to Paris. But we will carry them in our hearts and minds and they will continue to make us better until the last ball is dropped”, commented the US women’s national volleyball team coach Karch Kiraly on her choice. “The sweet thing is that our list for the Olympics is now clear and we are happy for this group. This group of athletes will give their best and will be the most resilient to any bumps in the race, which may be the toughest Olympic tournament so far”, added he.
However, Karch Kiraly will wait to announce the official 13th reserve, which will travel to the Olympics, but will only be able to play if a player is injured. Among the USA’s options for such a reserve are 2020 Olympic medalist Micha Hancock as a setter, the opposite Khalia Lanier, the outside hitter Alexandra Frantti, middle blocker Anna Elise Hall and libero Morgan Hentz.
“Our five reserves are a special group with difficult and specific tasks. They must show their best version every day, do everything possible to make the team even better and always be ready in case of injury”, said also the US coach.
