The top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka made 21 double faults and lost in the first round of the WTA 250 Adelaide 2

The top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka surprisingly lost in the first round of the WTA 250 Adelaide 2. The tennis player from Belarus lost to Sweden’s Rebecca Peterson with 1-2 (7:5, 1:6, 5:7) and continues her unconvincing performance since the beginning of the year, after being defeated in the first round in last week’s tournament in Adelaide.

Aryna Sabalenka made 21 double faults against the 93rd in the world Rebecca Peterson and although managed to win the first set with 7:5, the Swedish player made a turnaround after 1:6, 5:7.

“Honestly, it was the weirdest game I’ve ever played. It was hard, but I knew Aryna Sabalenka wasn’t in her best shape”, said Rebecca Peterson, who won against the two-time Grand Slam semifinalist for 2 hours and 18 minutes of play.

In the next round, Rebecca Peterson will face the American Madison Brengle, who in the first round beat the Russian Anastasia Potapova with 2-1 (7:5, 4:6, 6:1).

The other matches from the first round did not provide many surprises. Maddison Inglis (Australia) won her match versus Danka Kovinic (Montenegro) with 2-1 (6:4, 1:6, 6:2) and in the next round will face Tamara Zidansek (Slovenia), who defeated Heather Watson (UK) with 2-1 (2:6, 6:2, 7:6).

Tereza Martincova (Czech Republic) also qualified for the second round after winning versus Dayana Yastremska (ukraine) by 2-1 (6:4, 3:6, 6:3) and in the second round will play versus Madison Keys (USA).

Lauren Davis (USA) won versus Jil Belen Teichmann (Switzerland) by 2-1 (1:6, 7:6, 6:4) and in the next round will face Jasmine Paolini (Italy), who defeated Storm Sanders by 2-0 (7:5, 6:2).

Liudmila Samsonova (Russia) defeated Mayar Sherif (Egypt) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:4) and in the second round will face Nuria Parrizas-Diaz (Spain).

Anhelina Kalinina (Ukraine) also qualified for the second round of WTA 250 Adelaide 2 after defeating Sorana-Mihaela Cirstea (Romania) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:2) and will face Alison Riske (USA).

The American teenager sensation Cori “Coco” Gauff won her match versus Katerina Siniakova (Czech Republic) by 2-0 (6:1, 6:2) and in the second round will play versus Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine).
