The IOC will send observers for the women’s world boxing championship in New Delhi

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will send its representatives to observe the upcoming women’s world boxing championship in New Delhi, announced the International Boxing Association (IBA).

The organization of the monitoring group has been entrusted to the company PricewaterhouseCoopers, and the IBA are confident that the delegation “will see first-hand the best practices of the IBA regarding the application of the rules and especially the way in which meetings are referred and decided”.

In recent years, for various reasons, the IBA and the IOC have had a delicate relationship. In 2019, the world’s largest sports organization punished the IBA for problems related to governance, financial operations, and transparency in decision-making by referees around the ring.

Because of these problems, the IOC took away the right of the IBA to organize the qualifications for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, and the situation for the upcoming Olympics in Paris is similar. In addition, it is possible that boxing will be removed from the program of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.

Among the other concerns of the IOC is the IBA’s sponsorship contract with Gazprom, as well as the decision of the world headquarters to allow the participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus in international competitions with the flag and anthem, which is contrary to the regulations issued by the Olympic organization.

The Women’s World Cup in New Delhi starts on March 15 and will continue till March 26.
