The IOC wants an explanation from WADA about Kamila Valieva’s case

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) must answer the question about the delay in the processing of the doping test of the figure skater Kamila Valieva. This was stated by the spokesman of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Mark Adams.

“You have to ask this question to WADA because the laboratory accredited by them has been involved in the analysis of the sample. I cannot comment on that”, said Mark Adams

On Friday, the International Testing Agency announced that the reason for postponing the award ceremony after the results of the team figure skating tournament at the Olympics was a positive result from Valieva’s doping test, which was taken on December 25th.

The International Olympic Committee will assist in investigating the actions of the team of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, added Adams.

Earlier, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) launched an investigation into Valieva’s coaches after a positive doping test for the athlete.

The IOC will assist in the investigation of Kamila Valieva’s entourage. The World Anti-Doping Agency has a special investigation unit and we will ensure that the investigations are conducted not only against athletes but also against their team. The investigation plays an important role in this regard. “On this issue, our position will be firm”, said Mark Adams.

More than six weeks passed between taking Valieva’s sample on December 25th and February 8th, when she was notified by a laboratory in Stockholm, Sweden, that she had tested positive for the banned substance trimetazidine. Kamila Valieva and the team of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) won a gold medal a day earlier. The Stockholm Laboratory is accredited by WADA.

The decision on the distribution of medals in the team tournament will be made after considering the appeal filed by the IOC against the decision of RUSADA to cancel the temporary removal of Kamila Valieva in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
