The Brazilian women’s soccer championship final set a new attendance record

The final match of the Brazilian women’s soccer championship set a new attendance record in South America. Corinthians beat Internacional by 4-1 in Sao Paulo in front of 41,000 people at the Neo Quimica Arena to win their second straight title, and last week the two teams drew 1-1 in front of 36,000 in Porto Alegre.

In the second leg, Internacional took a lead by 0-1 after a goal by Sorriso in the 14th minute. However, by the end of the first half Corinthians overturned the match to 2-1 after goals of Jaqueline (23′) and Diany (45′). In the second half, the goals of Victoria (48′) and Jheniffer (90′) formed the final score.

Thus, Corinthians won the title for the second straight year.

Before the finals, the record was held by Colombia. In June, America de Cali beat Deportivo Cali by 3-1 in front of 37,000 fans.

The Brazilian Football Federation pays 6.3 million USD to the men’s champion and just 200,000 USD to the women’s champion.
