The first day of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest started promisingly and with breaking the world record at the 4x400m medley relay. It was placed in the United States 4x400m medley relay, which finished in 3:08.80 min. Justin Robinson, Rosey Effiong, Matthew Boling and Alexis Holmes ran for the championship quartet.
Extraordinary drama marked the last finale of the first day of the planetary forum in Budapest. This winter’s indoor 400m world record holder, Femke Bol, made an extremely strong last post, but in the final 5m her strength left her and she fell before the finish in the battle with the USA, and the drop of the baton saw the Netherlands team relegated, although Femke Bol still again managed to get up and cross the finish line third. She hit her head very badly in the fall.
The silver medals in the 4x400m medley relay went to Great Britain in a national record time of 3:11.06 min, with the Czechs taking bronze also in a national record time of 3:11.98 min.
