Taybe Yusein won the bronze medal in the 62 kg women’s wrestling in Tokyo

The world champion from Budapest 2018 and two-time European champion Taybe Yusein won the bronze medal in the 62 kg women’s wrestling in Tokyo, after winning the match versus Russian Lyubov Ovcharova by technical superiority in just 56 seconds. This was the second medal for Bulgarian at Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Taybe Yusein started just as strongly and confidently as she did in her previous bout in Tokyo 2020. In just 56 seconds, she reached a technical superiority – an attack on her left leg, then a few turns increased her assets to 10 points. The helpless Russian could do nothing but accept defeat, and the technical superiority happily filled the excited Bulgarian wrestler.

Taybe Yusein had extreme problems preparing for the Tokyo Olympics after breaking a knee cruciate ligament in September 2020 and recovering for nearly nine months. She took part in only two preparatory tournaments before leaving for the Japanese capital but nevertheless delighted all Bulgarian fans of wrestling and sports with a long-awaited medal.

Bulgarian women’s wrestling had won four Olympic medals – two of Stanka Zlateva from Beijing 2008 and London 2012, as well as a bronze medal of Elitsa Yankova from Rio 2016, so that now it is the turn of Taybe Yusein.
