Sydney McLaughlin made another impressive run in the 400m hurdles in Hungary

The world champion and world record holder in the 400m hurdles Sydney McLaughlin made another impressive run. The American, who is also an Olympic champion from Tokyo 2020, won the Gyulai Istvan Memorial Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix at Szekesfehervar with 51.68 sec. This is the fastest run in the women’s event ever recorded in Europe.

“I just wanted to go out and make a clean run. I had a little break after the World Cup. But I feel I had a good race and I’m happy with the result. We’re excited to be in Hungary and scouting ahead of next year’s World Cup”, said Sydney McLaughlin after the run.

The Jamaican duo of Janieve Russell and Rushell Clayton finished second and third with 54.14 sec and 54.45 sec, respectively.

Sydney McLaughlin is the world record holder in the 400m hurdles. She is the Tokyo 2020 Olympics gold medalist in 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay, and also the current world and Olympic records holder with 50.68 sec and 51.46 sec, respectively. Sydney McLaughlin was the first woman to break 52 sec in the 400m hurdles when she set a world record of 51.90 sec at the 2020 USA Olympic trials.
