Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone won the US Championships in 400m with the new season’s best

Olympic and world 400m hurdles champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone set a new world best for the season in the women’s 400m. She finished in 48.74 sec at the USA Track and Field National Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Britton Wilson was second with 49.79 sec, and Talitha Diggs was third with 49.93 sec.

“Great athletes always want more from themselves and I aspire to be like them, so I have to get out of my comfort zone. I’m very happy to be here”, said Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone after the 400m event, which also qualified her for the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. “I want to continue to get even better and increase my speed”, added the athlete.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is an American hurdler and sprinter who competes in the 400m hurdles. She is the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion with the Games record, and 2022 World champion with a world record time of 50.68 sec. Setting four world records during 13 months, she was the first woman to break the 52-sec (June 2021) and 51-sec (July 2022) barriers in the 400m hurdles. She won the silver medal at the 2019 World Championships. At all three competitions, she also took gold as part of a women’s 4×400 m relay team. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone holds six out of the seven fastest times on this list. She was the 2019 Diamond League champion.
